Bad Adventures operates guided hiking, backpacking and kayaking adventures in awesome adventure destinations.

We hold permits to guide in places like Rocky Mountain National Park, Arches National Park, Canyonlands National Park, and Everglades National Park. In the 2021-2022 season, we’ll lead kayaking trips on flatware to class II+ rivers and lakes in Colorado, Utah, and Pennsylvania, plus coastal kayaking in Florida. Trips range from four to eight days in length. We guide the trips we market, as well as trips on contract for a couple of amazing sponsoring organizations.

We’re a small and scrappy operation with the most incredible group of devoted customers. The vast majority of our guests have been on multiple adventures with us.

1 Available Position:

Junior Guide (Backpacking, Hiking, and Kayaking)

We’re looking for one Colorado-based junior guide to round out our team for the 2021 season. The position’s responsibilities include both leading backcountry trips with a senior guide, as well as preparing and provisioning for trips at our base of operations. Field work will include trips in Colorado, Utah, Florida, and/or Pennsylvania.

This is a full-time position with a start date in either May or June, 2021.

Responsibilities

  • Share your love of outdoor adventure and help our guests have the time of their lives.
  • Guide in wilderness environments with a senior guide who serves as trip leader.
  • Teach backpacking and expedition kayaking skills.
  • Share Leave No Trace principals.
  • Plan and prepare for trips. Clean and organize equipment. Provision and pack gear for adventures.
  • Continuously work to ensure the safety of our guests.

Requirements

  • Professional or extensive personal backpacking or kayaking experience.
  • An ability to make good decisions in stressful situations.
  • A heroic work ethic.
  • Great communication and interpersonal skills.

Desirable Qualifications

We will consider candidates with a variety of experience levels. Your application may stand out if you have:

  • Experience leading wilderness trips
  • Experience preparing backcountry meals
  • Wilderness medicine certification
  • Swift Water Rescue training and experience
  • A valid driver’s license
  • Flexible availability
